Lady Catherine von Canarii.

An acclaimed Lady of great beauty with a vast wealth of knowledge, she is well-travelled and endlessly curious. Her advice is sought by many of the world’s leaders, with discretion being her most valuable asset. Her greatest passion is adding to her extensive collection of games as well as admirers. Now in her later years she has sequestered herself in the luxury of her camp, surrounded by the fiercely loyal and eclectic community that travels with her.

Rewarded by Her Most Gracious and Noble Majesty, Queen Elizabeth I, with letters patent that grant the Guild permission to introduce Her subjects with the diverting pleasures of game of luck, in the the for coin is limited by her gracious Majesty to hours after sunset only.  During the day times the guild displays and demonstrates various games of strategy, chance and cunning from around the world, free of cost to all patrons so they may return to lose their coin in the evenings.

It all started when a group of passionate history enthusiasts and renaissance re-enactors realized that the ancient art of tabletop gaming was being lost to time. Founded under the vision of Great Lady Catherine von Canarii, the Cat v. Canary Guild was established to keep the spirit of historical strategy and chance alive.

What began as a small gathering of players has grown into a dedicated, all-volunteer community. We travel to festivals, educational institutions, and community events to share our love for ancient board games. From the tactical battlegrounds of medieval strategy games to historical games of pure chance, we bring history off the pages of textbooks and onto the gaming table.

 

Our Mission and Goals:

Our primary objective is historical preservation through active play. We believe that games provide a unique window into the cultures, daily lives, and minds of people from centuries past.

Educate: We provide free demonstrations and hands-on teaching workshops for patrons of all ages.

Exhibit: We research, recreate, and display historically accurate replicas of board games from around the world.

Entice: our meticulously curated and immersive encampment is full of color, camaraderie and character featuring interactive educational displays where patrons can rest, relax, and divert themselves in comfort.
